Tis the night before Christmas…
and after the stockings are filled, you can whip up a delicious, easy strata recipe because—face it—once Christmas morning gets rolling, you don’t have time to fuss in the kitchen.
The wonderful thing about a strata dish (really a savory bread pudding) is that you are supposed to make it the night before. Perfect!
Then in the morning, while the stockings are being looted, you pop the dish into the oven and set the timer for one hour. Just think—you’ll be able to feed the hungry hoards before the living room disappears under a pile of rustling gift wrap. Santa’s got nothing on you!
The really important thing is that you don’t wait to get these key ingredients from Deli Direct so you’ll have them on hand when Christmas Eve rolls around:
cheese and sausage gift basket
Polish kielbasa or Canadian style bacon
Hearty Cheddar Bacon Dip seasoning mix
12 oz. take-your-pick from our flavored cheeses. Cut into cubes.
10 – 12 slices of white bread. Remove crusts and cube.
8 oz. of your pig-of-choice: either kielbasa, or Canadian style bacon. Cut into small pieces.
1 4 oz. can mushrooms, drained
2 cups milk
¼ teaspoon each of salt, pepper and dry mustard
1 tablespoon of Deli Direct’s Hearty Cheddar Bacon Dip seasoning mix
Grease a 13 X 9 inch baking dish. Put half of the bread cubes in baking dish, then cover with cheese cubes, meat and mushrooms. Put the rest of the bread on top.
Mix seasonings with eggs and milk. Pour over bread mixture, coating all the cubes. Refrigerate, covered, overnight (or at least 4 hours).
Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Serves 8.
